“Introduction to Subtle Touch Techniques”* – by Suzana Delmanto

I dedicate my work to all those who seek an improvement in their quality and way of life, in the hope of being able to help in the therapist-client relationship, as well in any life situation in which there is respect and love.

This book is to be used by those who recognize the importance of contact through touch and its contribution to healing processes, both of the body and of the soul; also, by all those who wish to get to know the universe of one’s own body better, thus creating the basis for fuller and deeper living. The Calatonia Method, which underlies this work, was the original idea of Dr. Pethö Sándor, based on the use of extremely delicate touches, touches that respect the smallest manifestations of the body and of the emotions portrayed in the body’s history. The book includes episodes narrated by Dr. Sándor about the development of his method and how, in Brazil, the work has been going forward.

Recorded here are the results of life with a great master, the marks left by some of his thoughts about life and his understanding of love, among other ideas, called “Points of Reflection.”

Along with the subtle touches, we have included comments based on various professional opinions, which express different kinds of thoughts that tell the same story from various angles. There is also an appendix of personal experiences in the use of bodywork.

The main reason that led me to write this book was the idea of preserving the material that for many years had been passed on to us so carefully by Dr. Sándor. At one time, he was asked to write about his work, but he always emphasized the importance of learning through experience rather than through reading. For this reason, he preferred, as he said, “to dedicate his time to teach.”

The incentive and encouragement to organize these memoirs and records were provided by colleagues who were with me for so many years at Dr. Sándor’s side. They are still together, continuing his work.

I should like to alert the reader that the desire to apply the touches to oneself might come up naturally while reading. If this should occur, the experience will always be beneficial and enriching.

As Louise L. Hay wrote, we must be willing to begin to learn to love ourselves.
